PHILIP VERNON NICHOLLS was born on October 6th 1960, the first of three boys of Neville and Yvonne Nicholls. Stephen is a financial analyst and Christopher an oncologist, while Philip followed in the footsteps of his father in becoming an attorney-at-law. His mother was a teacher for many years at the former Girls Foundation and Oueens College, and was on staff at the University of the West Indies when Philip also joined the Faculty of Law there as an Associate Tutor ,something he did for over 20 years.

Alvin Cummins was born in Barbados in 1933 and attended Combermere Boys' School. He left the island in 1958 to attend Harpur College of the State University of New York (SUNY) on a tuition waiver where he studied for a Bachelor's degree with a Major in Biology. Upon completion he trained for his Diploma in Medical Technology.

He returned to Barbados in 1963 and assumed the post of Senior Technologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
