PHILIP VERNON NICHOLLS was born on October 6th 1960, the first of three boys of Neville and Yvonne Nicholls. Stephen is a financial analyst and Christopher an oncologist, while Philip followed in the footsteps of his father in becoming an attorney-at-law. His mother was a teacher for many years at the former Girls Foundation and Oueens College, and was on staff at the University of the West Indies when Philip also joined the Faculty of Law there as an Associate Tutor ,something he did for over 20 years.

His early education was at the Merrivale Preparatory School, also known as Mrs. Carrington’s school, where his two brothers were all schooled before the three of them entered Harrison College. After Harrison College he entered the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus from where he graduated with an Upper Second Class Degree in Law before completing his professional Legal Education Certificate at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica in 1985. From there he read and obtained a Master’s in International Business Law from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1987. He was called to the Bar in Barbados in 1986 and joined the firm of Cottle Catford in January of 1987 as an associate attorney-at-law.

He was admitted as a partner of the firm from January 1st 1992 and remained as a partner of the firm until he closed it on October 30th 2009.

He is a former president of Pickwick Cricket Club, and served on the board of the Barbados Cricket Association between 1988 and 2005, the last five as honourary secretary. He has also sat on several other boards in the island, and was the last president of the Canada Barbados Business Association. He has served as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Association and the Barbados Hockey Federation, and currently sits on the Complaints Committee and Rules Committee of the Barbados Cricket Association. He has three daughters, Carissa and twins named Anya and Edaynah, but is no longer marrled to his former wife Beverley, who is also an. attorney-at-law.
